Constructivism…

So, over my weekend that’s just now drawing to a close, I built Tigg this cat tower/scratching post/dangly thing. I used a jigsaw, sandpaper, a file, staple gun and drill! *très butch* It was actually a lot of fun putting this monstrosity together. Dragging it up to the third floor actually wasn’t. See the base that looks like a chunk of moon rock? 30 lbs of concrete…

Also this weekend:

Visited with Hoover on Thursday night and helped talk him down from an unemployment-induced ledge. Quite a nice time and kept me occupied since my entire family didn’t arrive home until midnight or so. On Friday I spent my morning delousing the VeeDub and then went to Clarion with mi hermana to get handy type things at Trader Ho. Then, my aunt and grandmamas arrived for a trip into the woods. We had dinner at Trail’s End (made it, even though no one in my car could navigate) and then watched Hannah dance in Fame.

Today, I worked on the biggest cat toy ever and generally relaxed with my mom while watching my dad do varied insane-seeming ‘chores.’ We watched from the pool, I might add, while Ebby paddled about on her raft.

Now I’m exhausted. Just once I’d like to return to my place with less stuff than follows me home. JUST. ONCE.

7491: Code for New Image?

And there you have it: a brand new image created by me. I’ve mixed a ton of different elements from my own photo collections, dabblings in Illustrator and bits borrowed from Deviant Art, specifically user Scully_7491. If you like it, you can download it from My Portfolio or directly by clicking here. [edit: pulled second link]

Arts Fest is like…

…coming home to a giant drunken bash that your roommate didn’t tell you about the night before a big meeting and finding that she is too shit-faced to help you clear everyone out so you hide in your room and hope that you can muffle the sound enough with a pillow to get the minimum amount of sleep you’ll need to be productive and not puffy tomorrow.

In short, Arts Fest, you may burn in the deepest part of hell.

Love and smooches,

Nick

It’s circletime…

This started out life as the new poster for our hallway at ETS, but quickly turned into an OCD task as I hand placed circles well into last night. Of course, you benefit because it makes a pretty background, just in time for summer.

8 Days Later…

…and I’m back. I just spent the last five days of my 8 day break from Centre County at the New Media Consortium conference in Cleveland. Until I arrived, I really considered Cleveland to be a complete void. I mean, it’s the Midwest. There can’t possibly be anything there. However, the Crocker Park shopping center in West Lake (first stop) quickly changed my mind. I spent a ton of money on clothes and got to hit up Trader Joe’s…all on foot. Fantastic. The NMC closed down the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for us to have a party, I attended a gallery opening at MOCA, hung out at B-Sides in Euclid Heights with Brandon and got to tour The Cleveland Institute of Art…where I’m applying for a job tomorrow. I mean, like any city, there are ghettos and littered streets…but it’s a city. And that equals wonderful in my book.

So…the conference itself was actually a lot of fun. I attended some interesting workshops and hands-on sessions. I learned that Aperture is one of the best programs Apple has released in a long time. Hannah and I won a gong for presenting about the Studio at “Five Minutes of Fame” and then schmoozed like fiends at the reception after. Met all kinds of interesting people from literally everywhere imaginable. Yep…good stuff. A+ Will Attend AGAIN.

Now I am home. I took about 145 trips up and down the stairs tonight, glared at my landlord, cleaned my car and my home and now I’m fighting off the sleep. It’s going to be a losing battle, that I can assure you.

Om…

That’s what I call this one. Apparently the Indian eggplant crockpot casserole creation from this past weekend has weighed heavy on my brain…we’ve got curry colored backdrops, vaguely Hindu architecture and a Sanskrit om. Do enjoy!

What I did this “weekend”…

…now with 100% more bullet points!

  • relaxed at Seven Springs resort with my mom & sister
  • watched some very talented young dancers
  • saw Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater inside & out
  • took my mom out to lunch
  • drove Klaus, as opposed to just commuting in him
  • picked daffodils in Talleyrand Park at midnight

Back to work tomorrow. Hopefully you’ll all enjoy your weekends as much as I enjoyed mine. As random as it was…

Special bonus! Fortified with photographic evidence.

My view of the room while waiting on the bed for anyone to come back from wherever they were.

The bounty of my daffodil hunt in Talleyrand.
