An ode to Mamie…

Okay, so I’m unbelievably fascinated by this Mamie Van Doren…it’s not really a crush so much as I’m in awe. 75 years old. She was a child in the Great Depression. We hear stylists talking about bringing back the look of ‘Old Hollywood,’ but she’s still living it. Anyway, to honor her, I’ve turned her into vector art and created this new background entitled, simply, “Mamie.”

A tour of my boredom…

Last night, I took home the FMC’s new videocamera…this tiny little Sony MiniDV HC36 which is adorable. Because there is nothing exciting going on in Bellefonte (ever), I decided to just record what an evening in the life of Nick is like. However, I suprised myself with just how fun this video ended up being. I call him “Permanent Press” and you can view him here (QuickTime 7 – 10.8 MB).

Also, today ended up being relatively decent…mainly because I was suprised by a $150 deposit by the university in my checking account. Apparently I was paid over six weeks early for a medical study in which I paricipated. If you know PSU at all, you will understand how rare it is to have anything involving money happen sooner than you’ve been quoted.

Hair cut tonight!

New painting…

Well, my back may never speak to me again after working on the floor for three or four hours (lost track of time), but I’m sure that the sacrifice was worth it this time. I was inspired by my trip to Rome, where there is a modern city encased in a church, more or less. And now, for your viewing pleasure:

Roma

European media overload…

Alright, friends, Romans and countrymen…here are the photos and video from my European vacation, as promised. There is a lot of material, so I definitely recommend broadband (or a lot of patience). Let me know what you think, especially of the video…I spent quite a few hours on it.

One day left…

Well, I’ve not been run down in the streets yet. *knocks on wood* I’m pretty much entirely exhausted, but we’ve seen nearly everything in the entire city of major interest, so I think it’s been a very successful trip. Today was a trip to San. Ignaccio with Ann in the early morning to do sketching followed by two churches (for Gail) and then the Villa Borghese. This was once a private garden and now is the most beautiful public park I’ve ever seen. Ann’s friend, Lauren and I went to the National Gallery of Modern Art and then met Gail at a temple on the lake.

Soon, there will be video here, kiddies…

Death is a scooter…

…when you are Rome. Seriously…it’s driven by a little Italian man named Arman and he’s fucking barreling down a cobblestone street right at you. Look out!

Anyway, I’m in Rome! Today was splendid…we (being Gail, Ann, Lauren and myself) went to Florence (Firenze) to check out so much historical stuff. I can’t even begin to remember all of it…but the notables were climbing and descending 800 nearly vertical, sometimes spiraling stairs to the top of the dome at the Duomo of Santa Maria del Fiore. It was leg-killing but the view was amazing. We saw reconstructions for Leonardo’s drawings, shopped, viewed a ton of churches and walked probably 8 kilometres. It was out of control.

So, I should cut this short since I’m on Ann’s computer. I will be posting photos and videos of everything when I get back, but look for another short text post in the near future. Ciao!

Bringin’ it from London…

Hello, all! I’m in the lovely Mr. Andy’s flat, finally putting my feet up after a whirlwind day (and 2.5 hours of sleep). We saw Windsor Castle and its changing of the guard today. Andy drove us on the M4 and all over the city itself and then we regrouped at his for a bit before heading back out to street level. Gail gave us a fantastic lesson on the dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral before we decided that £18 was too fucking much for a church tour. So we walked the Millenium Bridge to Tate Modern and saw some pretty incredible works. Gail also nearly burned down the Rothko room, but that was too be expected. Afterward, we shopped…okay I shopped…at Zara for an outfit and then we had an Italian dinner and a coffee for dessert. Now we’re back for a film, drink and hopefully some sleep before an early day and more travel tomorrow.

Until I reach Rome…

Mix CD madness…

Dusty and I have been crafting a finely tuned mix of the best music for your next delightfully androgynous makeout session. Expect a full tracklist to accompany this cover art in a few days…

In other news: I’m leaving for London & Rome in just three short days. The speed with which time has been moving is absolutely astounding. I can only remember the broken person determined to make a get away as a faint glimmer in my past. I’m glad to be rid of him and even more glad that he made such a great decision. This trip is going to be more fun than I can even stand to think about. I’m all packed (save for two outfits…Zara and others, be prepared) and, minus a few minor details, ready to go. Gail’s coming over on Thursday night and we depart from Bellefonte at 9 AM Friday. Her aunt will be delivering us safely to JFK and storing Mr. Klaus for the 8 days we’ll be gone. I know I’m not a seasoned world traveler, but I feel really sure of myself going into this trip. I truly cannot wait.

But I will miss talking to my favourite interweb friends…perhaps I can rustle up a computer to travel with. Hmm?

Shameless plug…

I’ve been busy tonight creating a brand new image and updating my personal portfolio site, Portfolio. Aside from this new piece, I’ve also added image packs sized for mobile phones. I tried to include the most common sizes but, if I overlooked your particular phone, please let me know the model and/or the resolution and I’ll add it to the collection. Click on the Mobile link in the navigation bar to check out this new feature. [edit: pulled and redirected to Portfolio]
