Explaining a paradox

Kurz Gesagt (don’t feel bad – first I’ve heard of, too) has published a truly adorable look at the Fermi Paradox, something I find myself pondering more than is healthy. It’s really clear and informative and terribly cute, as well but it mostly caught my attention because of how much it reminded me of these animations from 2005’s take on The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy:

Anything that can remind me of this gem amongst novels and its film adaptation…well, its creators must be “good people”.

Watch: the Jupiter Ascending trailer

You know, I’d been truly prepared to not care for Jupiter Ascending.  And I was certainly not expecting to find myself really wanting to see the film.  But the trailer has me hooked and I think I can even get behind Mila Kunis in the lead role.  So, count me in!

Now showing

You don’t even want to know how many hours I spent on this tonight…

Greetings, creepy

In fairness, I think Michael Fassbender may actually be an android. Regardless, this latest video teaser for Prometheus has me convinced that this installment will be my favorite of the Alien films. And that David will be delightfully creepy.

China, we have to talk

This is a brand new, absolutely jaw-droppingly beautiful museum designed by some truly phenomenal architects in the middle of Ordos, a city in China…with a population of zero people.  Did I mention it’s also in the heart of the Gobi dessert?

China, dear, what are you doing?

I would also like to point out that it’s basically a set from the Charlize Theron reboot of Æon Flux, a fact that I have no problem with but still merits mentioning.

Come to think of it, though, if you were to construct the last city on Earth, you couldn’t really do much better than the Gobi, right?

New PKD adaptation

Earth is trapped in the crossfire of an unwinnable war between two alien civilizations. Its leader is perpetually on the verge of death. And on top of it all, a new drug has just entered circulation a drug that whips its users back and forth across time.

io9 has news about the latest Philip K. Dick adaptation, Now Wait for Last Year.  Also in the report:  absurd hats are pondered and I’m reminded of the impending Gondry-fication of Ubik.  Hoorah!

A book to remember

Since I will most likely forget by the time I get to reading it, I want to remind myself publicly to pick up a copy of 1Q84.  This NPR review explains why.

Its mention coincides nicely with Kate’s question:  “Did you see the time-lapse video of Tokyo set to the score of Blade Runner?”

The answer to which is now “Yes.” What a perfect companion to Murakami’s book.
