A tour of my boredom…

Last night, I took home the FMC’s new videocamera…this tiny little Sony MiniDV HC36 which is adorable. Because there is nothing exciting going on in Bellefonte (ever), I decided to just record what an evening in the life of Nick is like. However, I suprised myself with just how fun this video ended up being. I call him “Permanent Press” and you can view him here (QuickTime 7 – 10.8 MB).

Also, today ended up being relatively decent…mainly because I was suprised by a $150 deposit by the university in my checking account. Apparently I was paid over six weeks early for a medical study in which I paricipated. If you know PSU at all, you will understand how rare it is to have anything involving money happen sooner than you’ve been quoted.

Hair cut tonight!

Don’t believe his lies…

Do you use Mac OS X? Have you ever made the mistake of believing the Weather Widget? Ever fall for the trickery of AccuWeather? Well, here’s a helpful illustrated PSA for you:

I want a job where I can just roll out of bed, write down whatever assinine predictions strike me as possible, phone them in and go back to sleep. What’s particularly insulting is that there is an AccuWeather office right here in State College. Like, if they wanted to ‘forecast’ accurately, they could just look out the window.

Thanks…that is all.

European media overload…

Alright, friends, Romans and countrymen…here are the photos and video from my European vacation, as promised. There is a lot of material, so I definitely recommend broadband (or a lot of patience). Let me know what you think, especially of the video…I spent quite a few hours on it.

Two words: new vacuum!

Say hello to my new Bissell Lift Off Turbo! Yes, bitches, this thing is turb0-charged cleaning. You can tell by the metallic red finish and the italicized decals that adorn its body. (Actually, I think the Turbo refers to its TurboBrush attachment, which is not pictured.)

So what makes it so special? Well, it’s bagless and uses the much-hyped “vortex” system for cleaning. It has suction for miles. The wheels don’t fall off, like with my old vacuum, and you don’t have to unplug it to turn it off. Two major pluses. Also, it has the single coolest feature I’ve ever seen…the one that garners the “Lift Off” title: you can take the canister with you! The core of the vacuum – power cord, hoses, collection chamber, attachments – is fully detachable so you can just lift it off and take it to the stairs, bathroom or car. Yes, car. I don’t have to drag an entire contraption down from the third floor to the parking lot anymore…just the part I need!

UNBEARABLE EXCITEMENT.

I used it tonight. I had just cleaned with the ol’ Kenmore on Thursday. The Lift Off clicked and whirred all over my apartment and, when all was done, the collection chamber had a satisfyingly disturbing half inch of dirt at the bottom. Thrilling.

Well, I’ve switched…

…to Verizon Wireless, that is. And you know, for a company with a corporate logo like the horns of Satan, they are actually really nice. I spoke with five reps tonight about various things and every single one of them was polite beyond reason. And they knew their shit, as opposed to the “Uh, well…I don’t know…let me check…and transfer you…to someone else.” that I got with Cingular. While my new phone isn’t as sexy as the Nokia 7610 I had with Cingular, I am very happy with just how competent this Motorola E815 seems. Plus, now I have a GSM phone for trips to Europe and a really solid US phone for home. The best of both worlds, I’d say.

Giving thanks for loneliness…

This has actually been an enjoyable break at home for me. I’m not going to repeat what Dusty has posted about right below here, but I will reiterate that last night was a lot of fun. Today, I spent my time helping Jayme & Mike clean out Barbara’s spare bedroom. We dragged everything out into the hallway, organized by crap/not crap and packed up a truckload of junk to take to Clarion to be thrown away/donated. A highlight-worthy conversation:

Jayme: Mom, can we please get rid of this macrame lamp?

Barbara: Jonette made that and I was going to have Chris rewire it.

J: Really?

B: Well…maybe…

J: I’m going to put it in the junk pile.

B: Alright…keep the clay pots, though. They were worth good money.

J: It says $4.99 right here on this one.

Tonight, I walked over to Angela’s after making a slammin’ dinner for my mom upon her arrival. I got Kenny all sexy with Tiger, had cigarettes in the garage with Bill & Kim, played with Cutie and watched The Lizzie McGuire Movie following a game of Old Maid. Yes, with real Old Maid cards.

Despite all the fun and being surrounded by wonderful people, I can’t help but feeling supremely lonely. My first holiday season alone is nowhere near as terrible as I thought it would be, but it’s not easy by any means. 🙁 Just Xmas and my birthday to go and I’ll be in the clear, I suppose.
